Mind you, this was suposed to happen on a work day so they would close school and I would get a day off... But it sure is Pretty!

It's working! Bwahaha!! The files from the formerly dead laptop are transfering nicely to the undead laptop! As I am going from PC to Mac here, I was a tad concerned, but thus far, all is smooth sailing in turnip land!
hrothgar1: (silly bread)
ok... so the dead laptop? Not so much...

BethCat was here for the weekend for Midwinters, and she showed me how to take out the hard drive so I could go get a new one. Turns out to be fairly simple...

So I had planned to do it this week, but my schedule kept getting interupted by Dr appointments, and on a lark, I thought "I should turn it on so as to have a recent memory of it's untowords behavior.

It booted up.

it did.

Still has a few error messages, although every time I restart I get fewer and it goes faster... I dashed out and got a thumbdrive and am dumping shit onto it RIGHT NOW.

it even says it has a CD player. it hasn't known that for MUCH longer than it was dead!

So I'm thinking Cat managed to reseat the damn hardrive. or somethin. I dunno- but meanwhile... WHOOP!! yeah HAW! And Karl (watch out world) will now have a computer. I'm gonna take it off line, but that one has the software for his music player, and he can use it to write. It's olkd enough that it is functional but not zippy- has slow USB and all that, but for his purposes, it is jest fine thank yah! It may only last a week- we shall see!

Ahhh the taste of benzocaine! My tongue is more numb than the gum I cut mind you, but benzocain IS my friend, even if it does taste a bit like lighter fluid smells!

If I go to Econo Sales looking for thread, muslin and cotton batting, I will walk out with 10 yards of heavy Linen in Forest green.

if I walk in looking for heavy linen in just about any dark color, they will only have it in lavender, and the thread I like will be discontinued.

So- My morning client has a cold, and I had DR appointment this morning over by campus. Result- I went to UO Bookstore to mail some stuff and bug Erika. RIGHT in the front of the art section was a whole display of Holbein pastels for 10 cents each. Now, my aunt, Rebecca Becker, is a pastel master, winner of awards etc, so I got excited and thought I'd just buy em all for her for her winter prezzy. (Christmas, Chanuka, and her bday is New Years eve) I talked to the checker, and I thought to myself that it would be most efficiant to take the display box to HER so we could count em into a box.

I hefted, and it wasn't too bad, so I got a hand under, and a hand over and got almost there... and the top of the display disconnected. BOOM TODAY.

Wow- pretty! ooooops...

Only half of em broke, and so I have a box of whole ones and a bag of half ones, and a cut on my finger, and two checkers covered on colorful dust, and an intimate knowledge of the floor of that department!

Now I'm eating lunch and waiting for my afternoon client. My hands are no longer rainbow tinted, but my socks are, just a bit!

errrr- happy Birthday Aunty!

If you click on the link, and then go below the story on nurses to the story "between the lines" it will take you to a 12 min radio podcast. Liz Cooksey is my mother, and there are two bits of her talking. For those who know me and have heard my stories, you'll know why Erika and I fell off the couch last night laughing at the phrase "genetically Persistent".

I'm tellin yah- it never ends, the mystery stain never goes away, you'll never find the source of the weird shade of pink, and the underwear monster will return the damn things right AFTER you blow this week's food budget on new ones so you can go to the pool and hold your head up.

So- yah know how piles of paper get bigger over time without any apparent human intervention? And how pens and pencils disapear?

I got it. The cat steals the pen, then sits on paper to hatch more, using matter from the pen, thereby following the laws of physics, if not the currently understood scientific principals.

So hah.

Your Score: Canyon

~ 59% Water ~ 70% Wind ~ 74% Earth ~ 51% Fire ~

I only wanna open wide the window

and let sunlight through...

Your colours are light blue, gold, and a darker orange. You are likely protective, good with money, intelligent and have sharp wits. However, you may sometimes appear methodical or stressed. You could try wearing a Hawks Eye that inspires serenity and helps come to terms with imperfection, and thus bring you a bit closer to harmony.

In detail:

Your Creative Chakra, which is associated with the element of earth and represents our need to preserve and grow, and your Throat Chakra, which is associated with the element of wind and represents our desire to learn and communicate, are predominant.

Your Ground Chakra, which is associated with the element of fire and represents our basic desires and driving force, and your Heart Chakra, which is associated with the element of water and represents our sense of love and compassion are not quite as prominent.

These are the results you will get if you score highly on...

None of the four elements: Balance Wind: Gust Fire: Blaze Water: River Earth: Valley Wind & Fire: Thunder Wind & Water: Clouds Wind & Earth: Canyon Fire & Earth: Lava Fire & Water: Tornado Water & Earth: Trees Wind, Fire & Earth: Storm Wind, Fire & Water: Stars Wind, Water & Earth: Forest Fire, Water & Earth: Avalanche All four elements: Harmony

pop quiz- how many rolls of toilet paper does it take to get Unorthodox manor through the holidays?

Answer- >mutter mutter> if normal is a roll a day, and holidays are a about a plus .5, then.... the answer must be.... more than fits in the damn cupboard!! but I got 36 in there!

the next question is butter- and the answer may just beggar me! But for this season, I just gotta do it RIGHT!!! I mean really- essentially we have 1.5 MONTHS devoted to food here! Whaddaya want me to do?!

I love this. I could live without things like discovering what has been residing under the shoe basket for the last month or so, and dusting all the knick knacks, but I LOVE this season! It is all about warm light, warm food, warm drink, fuzzy pants, and sleeping cats. it is tummy rubs and almond pastries and butternut squash. The scent of pears and apples on the coffee table, steaming mugs of tea and molten caramel. Fluffy socks, funny slippers and a pile of blankets that is STRUCTURAL! it is muddy paw prints on everything we own, dripping hats on the dryer being weighed down with a ring of V8 bottles, Sunday afternoon 'naps' and hours of cozy dark time before it is really time to go to bed. Sun becomes a treasured and godlike drug rather than the enemy, and the cats come in all spiky and gross, but they make us laugh. There are still beautiful leaves to fill ones pockets with, and the lawn no longer needs mowed. It is soup season, and I love it! from where I sit in the living room I can look into the kitchen, and the warm glow of light shows me the fragrant steam that, mere months ago, would have been a dreaded sweat inducing nightmare. THIS is BETTER!

And then there is the food!!! Did I mention 1.5 month devoted to food??

I know that we are priviledged, that most of the world has no such luxury- but rather than stop having the warmth and love ourselves, wouldn't it be better to strive to make winter like this for everyone? Never mind the cheep plastic crap, the fake cinnamon smell, the christian holidays that start 3 months early at the mall... the world needs more fluffy blankets, fuzzy socks, and fragrant steam. More naps. and LOTS more squash!! More friends crammed into living rooms watching wonderful creativity happening, and being part of it. More caramel!!!

And WAY less behind the toilet shmutz!!
